Did You Hear The One About the 77 Year Old Body Building Grandma?

It is becoming quite difficult to fit more than 40, is not it?

Or is it?

Well, you heard Kelly Nelson or Morjorie Newlin ... two grandmothers body building?

Read on and learn to do Kelly and Morjorie and what each chose the "rest of her life".

People will have all sorts of reasons, from the form, not exercising, or both. Sometimes, "I is not the time" or "I do not feel like it" or "That's just a waste of time". Sometimes true feelings and beliefs, but occasionally, they are masks for "I'm too old to be fit."

Kelly Nelson began weight lifting in 1980, more specifically, training with weights, at the age of 53 Up to this point in their lives, there was nothing about their existence was sporting. Their mission was simple. She thought the backs of the poor needs some work is involved.

When she learned she needed a workout.

It began on their own at home, and when she saw what they called surprising weight lifting, or better said, "Strength Training", could apply to the backs of the poor, it was done to learn 'triceps, "she thought work might weightlifting stuff for the rest of her could.

So, this 53-year-old non-athletes who began a regular exercise program.

After about 6 months, of which she believes her daughter, Colleen Fisher, about 30 years younger, started training with her, and finally began to gain body building is Colleen competitions.

In 1983, after 3 years of training, and never trained in a real gym, Kelly won in her first bodybuilding competition. She won the competition and never regretted it. She has been competing and training since.

Is it possible that this body building granny's oldest female bodybuilders as can be? We'll see.

Both mother and daughter have to accept the lifestyle of bodybuilding and weight training as the way they want to live. This can be a bit much for some people, but they certainly serve as role models, what can I do for the over 40 crowd. At one time, Kelly regularly rode a bicycle to and from the gym where she trained 10 miles each way proves, once again, that is after 50 Fitness is an impossible dream.

Kelly Nelson has been quoted as saying, "Aging is a disease and I do not have it. Nor do I intend to get it!" When the photos of her in her late 70 measures a bikini and FlexIn bears "a storm is no indication that she has not come to it.

Kelly Nelson, who was 77 years old body building granny has a long way since the beginning of the fitness lifestyle come, while a housewife in the 80 years. Since then she has won numerous bodybuilding championships, and to this day with her daughter, who markets her own line of fitness training videos.

When my wife and daughters say like: "You go, girl!"

I have had no opportunity to even talk to you about 86 years old Morjorie Newlin, and her numerous awards from her thirteen years of body building competitions. Did I say Kelly Nelson was still in the competition in their 70's? Well, Morjorie Newlin began training at the age of 72

What brought them excited enough to make a body building career, she has taken to competitions in Italy, France and Germany, and helped her deliver a room to start with their awards? She could no longer lift the 50-pound bags of kitty litter she needed to look after their cat! Two years later she won her first bodybuilding competition.

Now, let's see. At the age of 53, Kelly Nelson began weight lifting, because they do not like the looks of the backs of the poor. At the age of 72, decided she wanted Morjorie Newlin independent enough to take on their cat. From such simple starts, winning each body building granny fame and recognition for the decision that it is possible to do what most people feel is impossible for them.

They have also proved that women can in the 70's and 80's HOT in a string bikini. How's that for a break-up stereotype?

Even more, they proved that age do not always have the last word, as a person who is part of her life, life in the so-called "golden years".

Or, as Morjorie put it, "I want to be as independent as I can be as long as I can,"

Looks like they are 80 but one example, 90 are making it really fun too!

Oh! I'm sorry!

What have you told me how impossible it is for you to fit over 40?

9 Pioneers of Fitness

While not perfect, are the following nine people of my choice for a short list of the most important pioneers in weightlifting, bodybuilding, aerobics, health and fitness.

Born Eugen Sandow The Non Pareil (1867 - 1925) in Germany, Eugen Sandow has often been called the "Father of Modern Bodybuilding". Like Charles Atlas, as a teenager, Sandow was a great admirer of Greek and Roman statues representing athletes and gladiators. Sandow is considered a pioneer in bodybuilding, because he Statues measured to determine exact extent, and have worked to develop his own body parts game. In his late teens, while it shows in strong, he was discovered and taken by the legendary entertainer Florenz Ziegfeld. Its a great stir in America was the world's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893. His intelligence, natural charm and sophisticated appearance with his amazing physique and strength combined made him a star. Women actually paid him money for the privilege of feeling his muscles. For the men, he wrote widely on health, fitness and bodybuilding. He, like Bernarr Macfadden and Charles Atlas offers a mail order course teaches his students how to achieve health and fitness. He eventually opened a progressive fitness club in London, which stood in stark contrast to the damp, dark and sweaty gyms of the day. By his personality and innovation, he was popular movement and physical fitness to a wider audience than has been achieved so far.

Bernarr Macfadden (1868 - 1955) Born Bernard Adolphus McFadden in the state of Missouri, Bernarr Macfadden changed his first and last name because he felt that the new name had a larger representation of strength. This was not the only strange activity of the man who is in favor of regular fasting, and some very esoteric practices of health for the day and his wife called him a kook. He linked his personal views of the fitness and health practices in a company he called "Physical Culture", was called by the title of his first magazine. He eventually became a bit of a publishing mogul, was considered but are usually along the edges of reality in his obsessive approach to physical fitness. However, he inspired young men like Charles Atlas, and brought the idea of health and fitness as a way of life to a greater proportion of the public.

Charles Atlas (1892 - 1972) was born Angelo Siciliano in 1892 in Acri, Calabria, southern Italy. In 1905 his parents emigrated to America with young Angelo. A few years later he had changed his first name to "Charles", when he won a photo contest run in a magazine from the creator of "Physical Culture," Bernarr Macfadden. Young Charles was thrilled to have his physique.by Greek statues, he looked at improving the Brookly Art Gallery. His first attempts at fitness with improvised barbells with sticks and stones. His observation of animals in the zoo, however, led him to a series of fitness activities to their apparent means of maintaining their health in captivity basis. He named his discovery of Dynamic Tension, and went on his program to thousands of boys and men in the market. On the way to "Charles Atlas", he asked for the statue of Atlas. Of those exhibited in the museum were some in which he found his original inspiration. At the time of his death he was still on the exercise date and will run every other day. His course on Dynamic Tension is the inspiration for more than three million men and boys were.

Bob Hoffman (1898 - 1985) Bob Hoffman is considered by many as the "Father of World Weightlifting" and was the founder of York Barbell. He was an athlete, nutritionist, weightlifter, coach and philanthropist. Although an exceptional athlete as a young boy was the elder Bob Hoffman never a great weightlifter or coach. However, weightlifting, his vision, determination and belief in the value of the individual led him to create York Barbell, a company long regarded as the leader in the manufacture of weight-lifting equipment was recognized and still exists today. while many of his writings and comments were considered "over the top", was shown his personal courage and a willingness to face distress, not only in his later life as He represented and defended his position, but also during the First World War, where he received three Croix de Guerre with two palms and a silver star from France, the Belgian Order of Leopold of Belgium, the Italian War Cross from Italy and the Purple Heart of America.

Jack LaLanne (1914 - present) Francois Henri LaLanne, better known to the American public as Jack and the "Godfather of Fitness", had a very respected TV show in the 1950s. Interestingly, his show had probably seen and followed by more women than men, and he may have been helped to promote the idea that women could fit. Unlike many former supporters of Fitness, Jack LaLanne its territory studied very carefully and put what he felt like his studies related to him was the right way of doing things. He is still active in the gym, marketing a wide range of fitness and nutrition products.

Joe Weider (1922 - present) Joe Weider is probably one of the most easily recognized figures in the field of bodybuilding today. He was driving with not only as a force in the field of bodybuilding and fitness, but helped the careers of countless bodybuilders credited, not least of whom was a young Austrian named Arnold Schwarzenegger. He began his career by building his first fitness dumbbells from discarded car wheels and axles. At the age of 17, with a share of $ 7, he began his career by publishing roll-out of the first edition of "Your Physique" in 1939. In 1968 he changed the name of the magazine Muscle Builder, and in 1982 they changed again, this time for "Muscle & Fitness". Founded with his brother and partner, Ben Weider, Joe Weider, the International Federation of Body Builders (IFBB). His publications now as diverse offerings such as "Shape, Men's Fitness, Living Fit, Prime Health and Fitness", "Fit Pregnancy", "cooks", "Senior Golfer" and "Flex". Weider is now offering a wide range of books on fitness and bodybuilding, nutritional supplements and bodybuilding and weightlifting equipment and accessories.

Kenneth Cooper (1931 - present) A physician (MD) and former Air Force officer, Dr. Ken Cooper is probably the most for his book "Aerobics" which was published in 1968, is known and a driving force in me, always interested was fitness. Dr. Cooper's down-to-earth description of what he calls the "Training Effect" as well as a formatted process by which one's health and fitness with vivid descriptions of what would have been the personal impact that a person pursuing a fitness program to be paired to achieve, it is from his book a success. In fact, some have speculated that Kenneth Cooper's simple little book, "Aerobics," the impulses that physical fitness in the minds and hearts of millions of people around the world may have been taken. Today, Dr. Cooper is director of the Cooper Aerobics Center in Dallas.

Richard Simmons (1948 - present) Flamboyant is a word often used to describe the bouncy, endlessly cheerful aerobics guru Richard Simmons. It was estimated that Richard Simmons has helped and encouraged by people the world over more than 3,000,000 pounds through a combination of healthy diet and vigorous exercise to lose. Simmons has several programs, such as "Disco Sweat produced", "Sweatin 'to the Oldies" and "Stretchin' to the Classics", all of his signature humor and high level of tension. He has created educational products and programs from gentle stretching for the elderly to very intense aerobics. My wife hates, exercise, love Richard Simmons and even got where they were some very intense routines to follow, although she had by sitting on the couch and make only the movements of the hand started.

Jane Fonda (1937 - present) Many would not recognize the famous star of such films as "Barbarella" and "Coming Home", and the daughter of actor Henry Fonda, as an engineer or a fitness guru. For many years she was better as an actress with a sexy body, a big name known, and strong political views. However, in early 1982 and continued into the mid-90s, Ms. Fonda several fitness videos, which was very popular, especially among women released. In fact, today many people who know Jane Fonda, they know more than an advocate of fitness, health, exercise, yoga and aerobics as a famous movie star. While Jane Fonda is no direct contribution to the science of health and fitness, she was made like Richard Simmons, will be able to increase their reputation with a large female audience and helped it develop its fashionable to weld, fit, and feminine. Jane Fonda may have helped move the public awareness of the value and benefits of exercise and fitness to the point where many people now have a woman to be physically fit, a sexy woman only by her fitness.

Rising Blood Sugar and Pre-Diabetes

I normally do not like talking about myself. Ok, that's a lie. However, I recently had an experience with my own health, that I thought might be of interest.

Like most people, every year or so I go to the doctor for a check. So a few weeks back, I fasted for 12 hours and went into the early morning hours for my blood work. Not fun. The test is not bad, but I'm grumpy without coffee in the morning.

The doctor gave me a shopping list of tests that I can have and I chose. It is the most comprehensive set of tests that I've ever had and the results were quite enlightening.

Here are some background information. I am 48 years old, a woman approaching menopause, slender, very active in sports and lifetime Vegetarian (ovo-lacto). A doctor's dream patient.

As might be expected to have my cholesterol levels have always been great - that an attack is expected for pre-menopausal women (estrogen has a beneficial effect) on the cholesterol level. But a few years ago, my tests showed that my blood sugar levels were "high," normal hovering around 100 mg / dL (5.5 mmol / L).

I was shocked and concerned that I am on the edge of the development of pre-diabetes was. In the second year of the same test results. I have the idea that I will be likely to develop type II diabetes in 10 years. Still, for 20 + years, I had all the "right" to do things for the American Diabetes Association guidelines - but the numbers were inching higher.

I started to harvest grapes before diabetes and what to expect. From reading, I knew that scientists are beginning to see more and more connections between not only high blood sugar and heart disease, but also links between blood glucose and the pancreas, colon, breast, prostate and other cancers. I began to research ways to help themselves as nutrition and fitness. After a lot of research on traditional medicine, alternative, fitness and nutrition, I developed a plan and followed him for a year and a half.

To determine whether the plan worked, the last check-up, I asked for the full assessment, including blood glucose test that measures blood sugar level ranges over a period of 3 months.

When the tests came back, was 80 and my blood sugar levels stable over 3 months. My cholesterol was even better than in previous years.

Great!

Then I kept comparing the last trial with medical records over the past 20 years. I saw something amazing ... my blood sugar, cholesterol and other readings (liver, etc.) are the same as those which were now in 1991 - when I was 32 years old.

After this time, the readings slowly increased. Until 1996, my blood sugar reading was 100th Why this was not noted at the time?

Well, in 1996, the "normal" ranges for blood sugar levels were between 70 and 140 Thus, 100 is also within easy reach. The designated standard area have declined in recent years.

Now we have pre-diabetes called intermediate ranges. (110-125) This is mainly used as an intervention technique, because if caught at this early stage, half the people will not develop diabetes if they to change their habits and lifestyle.

So, back to my story: What was the plan that I developed? What I have to change over the past year and a half, so significantly reduced blood sugar levels?

Here's what I did:

Drastically bread, pasta, rice and other cereal-based things reduced, brown or white, less than once per week. Rarely ate sugar - with particular attention to hidden sugars in the diet. No fruit juice or sports drinks Ate a lot more vegetables and raw vegetables. Fruit used in moderation. Much more protein foods: beans, nuts, lean dairy, eggs, soy (Added a non-vegetarians would be meat / poultry / fish included) had 5 to 6 small meals a day instead of 3 large ones. Added cinnamon daily. Including chromium and magnesium to my daily intake of vitamins (multivitamin, antioxidants and essential fatty acids) Added more emphasis on my education training. Consciously practiced stress reduction techniques

Since I do not think the issue of lowering blood sugar using the scientific method of approach, it is impossible to say which of the above items individually helped lower sugar readings Put all together, they have to work ... dramatically.

So, if you or someone you know, have increased blood sugar, it's worth, the things a try. At least you are following a healthy diet, fitness and wellness plan, which is certainly good for you!

Although her new plan is not particularly difficult, it requires that they are more disciplined in their eating habits, eating schedules, and the way it works. According to her research, she notes that really requires the achievement of body transformation, which she wants more than just doing what it has done year after year. In fact, it is producing diminishing returns!

If your goal is to lose body fat, then your priority should be endurance training with 2-3 weight training sessions per week. I can not say with certainty that you will lose weight faster, but 2 or 3 different types of cardiovascular exercises could be better than sticking with only 1
